The Prince Albert Fund was established in 1984 by the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (VBO-FEB) and the King Baudouin Foundation to mark the 50th birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Albert, who would later become the sixth King of the Belgians. Discover what our partners have to say about the Fund below.
"At KBF, we believe in giving pivotal chances — opportunities that help people grow, contribute, and make a difference. The Prince Albert Fund has done exactly that for forty years: enabling young professionals to grow as leaders by tackling real-world entrepreneurial challenges abroad.”
The Prince Albert Fund was created within the King Baudouin Foundation — an institution committed to supporting pathways to excellence by helping young people with outstanding profiles to develop themselves. From supporting and guiding young talents from vulnerable backgrounds to maximize their academic and professional opportunities, to supporting emerging journalists and talented musicians, KBF has always believed in the power of opportunity.
With the PAF — our oldest talent program — that same spirit extends to the business world: nurturing future leaders who combine international ambition with a strong sense of responsibility to help build a better society. Through their projects, we see this spirit in action: purpose-driven entrepreneurship, sustainability, and innovation across fields such as AI, data, life sciences, and product development. Each story reflects Belgian know-how, applied with a global mindset.
The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is an independent philanthropic foundation established in 1976 to foster sustainable and positive change in Belgium, Europe, and beyond.
In 1984, under the leadership of VBO/FEB's chairman Baron Janssen, the VBO/FEB helped to establish the Prince Albert Fund. Since then, it has remained a steadyfast partner, driven by our belief in the power of leadership development and the importance of (global) entrepreneurship in creating societal value.
On the occasion of the Fund’s 40th anniversary, the VBO/FEB created the VBO/FEB NextGen Leadership Award. With this prize, we aim not only to recognize a young laureate, but also to support him or her in further development. The winner receives a training voucher worth € 5,000 to take the next step in their career. This highlights that learning and growth are a continuous process, something PAF has always stood for.
This year, the prize was awarded to PAF candidate Germain Boute. Read the laureate’s story here.
As the Belgium's largest employers’ organization, representing about 40 sectoral associations, VBO/FEB builds bridges towards a sustainable society founded on a healthy and open economy with equal opportunities for everyone, today and tomorrow.
The Prince Albert Fund was established for the 50th birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Albert, later to become the sixth King of the Belgians. The Fund’s aim was to embody the vision of a group of captains of industries to promote Belgian business abroad.
In 2015, on its 30th anniversary, King Albert passed the torch to his daughter, HRH Princess Astrid, who continues to champion the mission today.
